A game that is popular among my friends and I is Settlers of Catan. Who couldn’t love a game that gives so much opputunity for bad jokes oriented around sheep and wood? With everyone concentrating so hard on thinking up the next great joke the card piles begin to look like they were haphazardly thrown on the table. To remedy this I set about creating a card holder to help bring order to chaos.
The design I went with came from a post by Jonny German on the boardgamegeek.com forum; It was simple and allowed for cards to be easily drawn. The bulk of the work was done on the bandsaw. Files and sandpaper were used to smooth out the saw lines on the large faces the cards sit on, and a quick pass was done with a block plane to smooth out the exterior edges. The main body of the card holder is maple and the trim is walnut.
